A punching bag is cylindrical in shape, filled with foam which can be used for striking or kicking. This bag can be used for boxing or martial arts workouts. You can use this boxing equipment for workouts in gyms and in homes. A person can also burn fat, build muscle and relieve stress while punching or kicking the bag.
There are two types of punching bags
-> Hanging
-> Free standing bags
If you enjoy kicking and punching for relieving stress or for exercise purpose, you can choose equipment which can be used to workout at home. Here are a few steps that will help you in shopping a free-standing punching bag.
You can choose a spot at your home where you can keep your standing bag. Select a bag that is appropriate in size for your available space. Take measurements of the area to ensure right fit. Check out the material that is used for each bag. Select a bag that is filled with flock, hay, cloth, water or air. By using these materials you can avoid injury.
Choose a weight that has enough resistance to avoid injury. Select a punching bag that weighs less than you do, but is heavy enough that doesn’t move when it is punched. Go to gym, sporting goods store or training facility which allows you to punch and kick on the equipment. The best way to decide which is best for you is to test it first.
Punching bags are made up of nylon, leather or vinyl. A vinyl based bag may be described as being made up of synthetic leather. Most of the punching bags are 14 inches wide and the length varies with weight. Speed bags are punching bags which are very small and teardrop shaped. A speed bag is made up of professional and beginner martial artists and boxers to increase speed and improve timing.
Benefits of using punching bags
-> Great upper body strength and coordination
-> Dynamic punching combinations
-> Increased stamina and endurance
-> Opportunities for well developed footwork
Even if you’re physically fit, you should do warm up exercises before hitting the bag. Stretch your arms and legs as you will be moving around the bag at different times. Set a timer for three minutes and hit the bag lightly in the first round to work out the kicks. After first round is over take some rest. Do some stretching exercises. Stay hydrated so that you can maintain your intensity. Once you have finished resting, set the time for another three minutes. Pick up the pace for round two and circle the bag as you practice your punch combinations. Hitting a punching bag to exercise is a great way to work off your frustrations, but do not overdo it.
